If you care about the environment where you live and would like to get involved in protecting it there are some local action groups in Newport that you can join.

When we talk about the environment it doesn't just mean plants and animals, it takes in everything that affects us and the places we live.

From animal protection to different ways of getting around, recycling, carbon emissions, and the fairtrade movement from National Parks to problems of world importance like climate change and poverty, environmental issues that affect us everyday.

Gwent Young Farmers
Gwent Young Farmers is part of a national voluntary youth organisation. We seek to meet the needs of rural young people between the ages of 10 and 26, through education training and social programmes that encourage community involvment and concern for our environment.

Gwnet Wildlife Trust
Would love to have enquiries from anyone intrested in wildlife in the area and thoes that would like to volunteer to help gain experience. There is a wealth of wildlife information in a range of free leaflets, or if you want more info there are also books, which can be purchased, you can also find out about wildlife related events in the area.

Newport wetlands
The Centre will be a place to relax, watch birds and learn about the environment. It houses a shop and café for visitors to relax in, an education room for schools, activities and events, as well as conference facilities for local businesses and community groups, and guided walks around the reserve can be arranged Open every day (closed Christmas Day), 9 am to 5 pm (Coffee Shop open 10 am to 4 pm).
